Fagan to move to Indiana Port

Portage Republican Leader moves to state post. Now the party has 30 days to caucus and move a temporary councilman into the seat. Should it be Jim Snyder? Should it be the democrat that is running unapposed and will hold the seat in January anyway?

Valparaiso man poses question to Democrats for President

Isn't the question more appropriately: "what's wrong that families and churches and communities think it's the government's job?" What ever happened to a barn raising? What ever happened to a community rallying.

He goes on to suggest he had the "Cadillac" of insurance. And sadly he did indeed, at a cost that no steel consumer would beat.

`What's wrong with America? And what will you do to change it?'

After 34 years with LTV Steel, I was forced to retire because of a disability. Two years later, LTV filed bankruptcy. I lost a third of my pension, and my family lost their health care. Every day of my life, I sit at the kitchen table across from the woman who devoted 36 years of her life to my family, and I can't afford to pay for her health care. What's wrong with America and what will you do to change it?"

Skvara The most powerful moment in last night's Democratic presidential candidate debate at Soldier Field came about an hour into the proceedings when retired Porter County (Ind.) steelworker Steve Skvara (left) stood on his crutches and,his voice breaking, asked this question (watch the video clip):

His job paid for his family's three-bedroom house on a tree-lined street near Valparaiso, sent three of his four children through college and "provided a good life, everything everybody dreams about," he said.

A new item to top the Mayor's priorities list

Today's Quickly:

Mayor Costas, why doesn't our city have a Fourth of July parade? I guess if it doesn't make the city a lot of money, you don't want to bother. Very unpatriotic!

Try addressing this question to the previous mayor, who had 20 years and didn't create a July 4 parade. Costas has been in office for three years and is fixing the crumbling roads, rebuilding County Seat, fixing Eastgate (in process), replacing a 128-year-old cop shop, connecting Vale Park Road, and consoldating 911 centers.

Yes, Quickly caller, keep grinding that ax. It is becoming more and more clear how desperate you are to find something, anything, with which to attack the mayor.
