Can You Be A Republican If.....

Can you be a Real Republican if you don't support the Republican candidates? I was in the salon the other day and there were several discussions going on about politics.

One lady stated that she has always been a strong republican as I sat there listening to her I wondered is she? She stated that she would never vote for Mitch and was going to go listen to what JLT had to say and I said (of course I couldn't just sit there quietly) why? She stated Mitch was going to run a highway right through her house and he sold the toll road to a foreign company.

I of course had to delve further run a highway through your house? Yes I saw the map she said. I chuckled to myself as I had heard there were some possiblities drawn on paper. She then went on to state that she would have been homeless. Again I jumped in with both feet. You mean that they were going to take your house and throw you in the street (yes I knew better)? She said well I don't know how that all works but I just know that no one came and talked to me about it. I then told her what I knew about it, that she would have gotten more than fair market value and if they had even been thinking about putting a highway through her house I am SURE someone would have come and talked to her. I also told her about all the great thing Mitch has done more child welfare workers, a balanced budget for the first time, and on and on (don't want to get me started here Mitch is definitely my Man).

Then the Ron Paul discussion started. One of the people that work there made the statement that the Republican Ron Paulers are going to support Barr. I said let me correct your statement the Liberaterian Ron Paulers are going to support Barr. He said that the Paulers were Republicans. I of course said well if they were Republicans they would be supporting the Republican candidate. There is nothing wrong with someone wanting to support a candidate that is not from one specific party or the other but these people would be called independents.

I think that if you are going to call yourself a Republican you support Republican candidates. Now let me just say that in the past there have been a few Republicans that I did not support however, I would keep that to myself and when I went into the voting booth they simply did not get my vote. I would never vote for the democrat or third party candidate and I would definitely not help campaign for them. You see I am a Republican and have been a Republican since I was 18 years old.

Your thoughts on this?

Every time I'm tempted to vote Democrat, I always think of where famous Indiana Democratic superdelegate Bob Pastrick lives. He doesn't live in the Democratic "paradise" he spent decades and decades creating -- instead he's now in Ogden Dunes.

If Democrats can't stand to live in the cities they spent years creating with their programs and instead bail out after feeding on the public trough (at the cost of millions for the hardworking taxpayers), what hope do they have to offer the regular person who isn't a member of the Democratic party elite?

RR,

I have voted for democrats a couple times, and even told people when I thought the Republican was some old horse that we really didn't need in office. But, i understand your frustrations with the ron paul supporters ... some a terrific Republicans though who want nothing more than to see us move more libertarian conservative ... others are indeed trouble makers and in many cases won't even vote in November.

I'm more intrigued by their organizing efforts ... we could use some of those skills in our partys.

Dalton,

You apparently represent the RINO section of the Republican party if it's all about the Party and their choice. Just as true American patriots understand that we are not ruled by men but by laws, true Republicans are defined by their principles not by the Party. Dr. Paul stated it so clearly - "I have not left the Republican Party, it's the Republican Party who has left it's true Republican principles." If you can understand that and embrace it, then you'll understand "the organizing efforts" of the Ron Paul supporters. But I don't hold out much hope for you....

Anonomous easy to take pot shots at people without leaving your name.

I think that Dalton is right. Example that whole Soliday garbage with the right to work people. Oh its ok to take their money because we are going to do better things with it then them. Really and what did you do? Yup spent it to slime a good republican with conservative values. Pro life Pro marraige etc... great use of your resources. Then you go to a convention not to learn how things work being that it was your first time at a convention. No you go to try to see if you can "force" your way in and get to the national convention to vote for Ron Paul who isn't even the Republican candidate. We have a strong group in Porter County and would have welcomed you in to learn and get involved with our great republican members but telling us we are doing everything wrong and not even working with the party to find out what we do or don't do is wrong. It is like going to work for someone the first day and telling them that even though they have been very successful in running their business and you have never done this job before they are doing it all wrong. Learn and then suggest it goes over much better with people that work very hard to make things successful. We are all volunteers. We all work very hard. We all care very much about our fellow republicans. Most of us even put the party before anything else. Giving not only time, sweat and money for the cause. Think about that before you decide to tell people they are doing everything wrong and you can do it better.

Val,

With all due respect in regard to using pseudonyms in written political commentary, have you ever studied the life of Benjamin Franklin? If you haven't, then I don't know if I can expect you to understand anything I've written. Move over Dalton, you got company. God help the Indiana GOP.
