Region Fourth of July Parades

Yesterday, I attended the Portage and South Haven parade. I was standing there as everyone was getting lined up and ready. Excitement was in the air the kids were jumping around excited for the chance to participate in the fun.

Participants were putting their finishing touches on their floats. Businesses, individuals and political parties were all working hard to make a great Fourth of July parade. It was then that I glanced over at the democrats float which was right next to us. They were busy tacking up all their candidate’s signs when I spotted one of their candidates putting up two signs on each side of their float. Ditch Mitch! I am curious why they could not just run on their merit why the negative campaigning? Are their candidates so weak that they cannot run on their own merits?
I have to say I was really surprised to see one of Judge Chidester’s volunteers carrying one of these signs. I would think that a judge’s race would be held with more integrity.

I challenge the democrats to run on their own merit instead of negative campaigning. I look forward to a positive campaign season. I think both the Republicans and Democrats should tell us what they can do to improve our lives instead of telling us what the other guy can’t do.

RR, isn't that the only "issue" the Democrats have?

From the top of the ticket, Obama doesn't stand for anything just change. He's running against the Bushs and Clintons. We all know he wants to raise taxes and hurt our military and roll back our trade advances ... but he won't even talk about that. It's all about change.

From the top of the state ticket, yep you're right. Jill and Linda don't stand for anything themselves they just want to Ditch Mitch. Why? Because he capped property taxes? Because he gained billions by privatizing an asset that the state was losing money running? Because he helped businesses create jobs when all the states around us were losing?

Even here in Porter County. What do the Democrats really stand for?

Now a challenge: What is a Porter County Republican?

The worker with the Chidester shirt and "Ditch Mitch" sign was the Chairman of the Democratic Party of Porter County, and brother of Judge Chidester, Jeff Chidester. He wears many hats and you have to respect his loyalty to his brother. I think Dalton owes Judge Chidester an apology. Judge Chidester is married to a Republican, is extremely bipartisan and fair and has many Republican friends, except his opponent, who is also disliked by most Republicans.
Just setting the record straight.

First it wasn't Dalton that originally posted this. Next I don't believe that it says Judge Chidester carried the sign. It says voluteers. The point being here was that really the place for Ditch Mitch signs or was it a place to show who they were? I still feel that someone or their representative running for judge has no business carrying one of these signs.

I think that the chairman of the Democrat party should have had better sense than to even have the signs in the first place. This is a FOURTH of JULY parade and he was wearing his brothers shirt.

That said Mary Harper is a good Republican and that has nothing to do with the topic. Tim Vojslavek is also a good Republican working every event that he can to help the party and again nothing to do with the topic.

The challenge still stands run on your own merit instead of negative campaigning.

RR, thanks for clarifying your position, ie. that the Democrats should choose to run for something instead of just against Mitch. They may actually fare better since Mitch has become so widely liked in our state.

Even the unions have backed him because he cares and works for job creation. That is their goal right?

As for anonymous commenters who get their feelings hurt when we call out the Demmies for being negative, come on! The blogs are for free speech, to say what you think. I you like Chidester say so. If you don't like the guy running against him say so. But to "demand" apologies from people for pointing out faulty and poorly executed campaigning from an anonymous comment is a bit daft.

I welcome the participation, and no I didn't write the original post, but I was heartened to see that other Republicans are keeping a fervent eye out for Lake County political techniques. We don't need that in Porter County.
