Well it has been a really long 10 days. The fair is finally over. I always enjoy the fair because I get to talk with and meet tons of people. As you can tell my favorite thing to do is talk politics. Well working the fair is a great time to talk politics.
While most people are very nice and ask questions or talk about local current issues there were that few that were verbally abusive and felt that it was their “right” to walk over an unload on whom ever was working the booth.
I was most struck by people that stopped by the booth and asked for popcorn and when I asked them if they were registered to vote their reply was no and I don't want to be. Wow imagine in these times people that don't want to take their right to vote. Then there were the ones that said yes but I am voting for Obama (very few said this by the way). These were my favorite because then the next question to them was why. Each of them gave the same answer as if written on a slate in their head. “We need change”. My response always followed with what change is he going to bring. Funny thing when I asked them this they had no idea. Time and time again no answer. Once in while you would get “you know the war thing”.
When are these people going to do the research and really find out who they are planning on voting for and not some idea that the media is using to sell newspapers and commercials.

Right on, the supporters of Obama are star-struck for the most part. Similar to "loving" an American Idol contestant or a TV actor, our nation has decided to follow celebrity and looks.
Change isn't always good, especially if it's not defined. I'm all for growth in freedoms, democracy, economy, and caring for the least of these. I'm not for socialism, isolationsism, selling our souls to the UN, or other nefarious liberal ideas.
Which change is it Barack?
"Nefarious liberal Ideas?"
Really?
Wow.
This is why you guys don't have a chance in November, stuck in the past (red scare red scare!)and focused on negativity.
I'm not star struck and I certainly would never waste my time watching American Idol. Don't denigrate a whole segment of the voting population simply because you disagree with them.
Look, you guys had your chance for the last eight years and this country has been destroyed, a shadow of its former self. Now, it's time for our chance.
Jonathon, I'll say it here too, thanks for adding to the debate. That's important even when we disagree, we should keep the lines of communication open and free.
Many of us on the Republican side have been shocked at the amount of celebrity naivete we perceive in Barack supporters. You appear to be different.
Why exactly are you supporting him? That was the question that started the post by Republicans Rock, and perhaps is the better place to return. Why Barack?
Well, I've been an Obama supporter since before he was running for president, I read his book 'Audacity of Hope' and was inspired by his ideas and hoped he would run. If you want an idea of what he really stands for, I recommend reading it, it's a quick read.
You're right, 'change' is not a political platform. But also consider that he is trying to transcend traditional politics and building something new, which he has. Never has a candidate inspired so many people and raised so much money. Another reason I support him is that he does not take money from corporate lobbyists.
I don't agree with all of his positions (FISA was a disaster) but I believe in him. Sure I agree with his views on the war, health care, etc but it's the bigger issue, this idea that millions of Americans can band together and support a leader who represents the best of them.
McCain? I used to have a lot of respect for him. But it's all gone now. But my biggest beefs with him are that he's not a true conservative and he's just simply too old. I'm sorry but 72 is too old be president (he's no Reghan). He represents the past. We need to skip a head a few generations to someone who truly understands the issues we're facing today. McCain has never even used a computer for craps sake! That's not who I want running the FCC.
Obama may end up disappointing us all. It's very possible. But we will at least have our say again in 4 years. Political movements are fickle and they will abandon him if he doesn't follow through.
Anything will be better than the last eight years.
