Feel free to leave other "events" in the comments that are going on in Porter County, but I thought I'd leave a few comments on Barack Obama's Vice Presidential pick here. I'm out of town this weekend and not quite able to post a whole lot personally.
If I were Barack Obama I would choose Governor Bill Richardson from New Mexico. He is very strong on foreign affairs and has experience in administration. Barack has neither and will continue to get beaten over his lack of experienc in these areas.
But, my gut tells me that for some reason he will choose either Joe Biden or Evan Bayh. If he chooses Biden I guess he think he gets to compete with John McCain for mature white guys. Biden really doesn't bring him a whole lot, maybe some marginal innoculation on his foreign policy weaknesses, but if he keeps running his mouth no one will care who he has as VP.
Bayh will affect our election here in Indiana. Mitch Daniels is safe, mainly because Jill Long Thompson is so weak and not a great candidate to rally the Democratic party itsel. She still doesn't have her own base union support. But choosing Bayh will affect other down ticket races and bring more attention and money into Indiana. If I were a newspaper or TV company in Indiana, I would want Bayh to be chosen strictly for the monetary increase. Now here's my real question though, why Bayh? He really doesn't bring a whole lot to the table. A small state, not much experience in places that Barack is weak, and even some whispered problems at home with his wife.
Rumors have it that Barack makes his selection public in the next 24 hours. This is his first big decision ... will he blow it? In a week when John Mccain makes his selection, will we once again see the differences between these two men and the way they think?

I think that barring a big surprise or last-minute change of heart, the choice is likely to be Sen. Joe Biden of Delaware, chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee. While I think Governor Bill Richardson from New Mexico is stronger in this department, he doesn't have the name recognition that Biden has and this gets him noticed in the eyes of the public. Some may argue that this isn’t a popularity contest, I disagree, I think it’s the biggest one of them all when choosing a VP, who’s going to complement Obama the best and get him the prom king!!! Biden’s mouth may end up killing this race. If chosen, Biden better watch what he says during the campaign, his track record is well documented! I’d try and goat Biden like Tom Cruise did to Jack Nicholson in the movie A Few Good Men, Biden has taken the bait before!!!…Evan Bayh from Indiana gets him nothing.
Hey Steve, check out Uncouth Ruminations blog -- you'll like it. It's a guy I went to college with and he's currently a seminary student in St. Louis I believe. Great guy, and huge McCain supporter (as you will see in his writings). He is a great writer, check it out.
