Was reading in The Times this morning that Valparaiso's newly planned downtown park got rave reviews during yesterday's afternoon & evening open houses. While that all sounds fine and dandy, I'm still a bit taken back that it takes a Minneapolis based consulting firm to get this project going. Why, there isn't some local firm that can't come up with a pretty good plan. Hey try this on for size, why doesn't the city plan it themselves and save the cash.
I'm fully aware at the bid process but more and more I hear the word "consultants" when refearing to the decisions being made at Valpo's City Hall. It hearkens back to the Butterfield days of getting nothing really accomplished...and heaven forbid if it did get moving, it took forever to complete. Sure hope Minneapolis construction firms aren't going to build the thing. Any thoughts?

OMG, it must be gang up on the Valpo crowd week...
Such a change since Tuesday.
If you don't like the cost of consultants fine, I'm not thrilled with them either. But getting nothing really accomplished? Have you not driven through the town? Look at what has been upgraded and improved. East Lincolnway, decrepit buildings torn down, the county seat revival, Vale park extension, Valparaiso street, a better down town experience, I'm sure I'm missing something. What are you talking about?
Perhaps, depending on who is the "Valpo Crowd"...last time I checked though we can question our elected officials!
The RDA does a less than average job at communicating their progress to the public. I'm not sure these downtown improvements where a direct result of RDA money. Is there a website or any other place that this can be found out? I think some of these were already in the works prior to the RDA even being formed. Vale Park I'm almost positive was prior to RDA. County seat was private funds I believe.
The RDA has not been able to make much progress on the rail because the anti-growth types were against everything
