I think the whole let's figure out how to redefine ourselves is not where it is at. I think that the problem is we were beat with a good ground game. That's right a good solid ground game. TECHNOLOGY face it the Obama camp had it all over the republican camp. Funny thing is I think Obama could have run as the little green martian party and won. Why? He had text mail, twitter facebook, etc..... Most of the people that got him in had absolutely no clue what a republican or a democrat is . Hell most of them didn't even know who else was running in the elections. The Obama camp told them via text, or whatever that they should go out and punch the D button and that is what they did. College kids, recent high school grads I mean come on look at the numbers. The economically challenged and the union people have always voted for the democrats so that was no surprise. It was the youth that put him over the top. If we do not get younger more tech friendly people in the organization we will continue to fail.
Not only does the RNC need to hire tech people but the Indiana Republicans also need to and toss the old marketing people for people with younger, fresh ideas. People that years ago did the campaign promotions are a thing of the past move on to younger ideas.
I believe we can win if we straighten out our ground game.

You have a good point. Mitch Daniels won because he listened to the voters' concerns about property taxes ... then communicated solutions directly to them. He didn't wait around for the party, which frankly kept getting in his way.
I too think techno friendly leaders and politicians will be able to connect directly to voters, to mobilize neighborhoods, and raise money ... with or without party.
The Republicans are going to have to amp it up exponentially to compete with the Dems. The Dems had/have the tech, the media, and years of indoctrination of the youth.
The youth of today do not even realize there is another way of thinking other than the liberal ideology and if they are aware of conservative positions they have been trained to believe it is evil.
There needs to be a push to get the conservative movement back in the public high schools. It won't happen in the classroom. Perhaps, through clubs or after-school programs.
Thanks Jane. Some good ideas, tough to do though you're right.
There is no Huffington Post on our side. Luckily we have Fox News to offset CNN, MSNBC, and the networks. Talk radio we own so far. But online we're way way behind. Most Republicans don't even read the blogs or social media.
I want you to look at the age of Mitch's campaign people most were under 30 they were out walking the streets talking to their friends etc. Do you really think it was by accident the picture of Mitch on a motorcycle was sent out to the young voters? I can guarantee he was bouncing ideas with the under thirty crowd back and forth.
We also need to keep the over fifty crowd around for their knowledge, organizational skills and help with how to reach out to our seniors who are not so tech savy but when it comes to the 20, 30, and 40's we are all pretty tech savy and we need tech savy people to participate!!!
We should start having meetings with the high school age and above and ask them what they think and actually listen this is what will get them involved.
I agree that Obama's ground game far outpaced McCain's and the RNC, but I also think it was the passion they created. Conservatives had no dog in this hunt, so no passion. Think about it, did you vote for McCain because you were excited about what he would do to move this country to the right or because you were afraid of Obama moving it to the left?
The Dems started with passion 8 years ago when Bush won. That passion grew exponentially 4 years ago and has been fanned by the press.
In the same time frame conservative Republicans became more and more disenchanted with the Republican leadership creating at best apathy and at worse negative passion. That showed up 2 years ago in mid-term elections and continued to this election.
Good ground game? you bet, possibly the best in history. Do we need a better ground game? you bet. Will it happen now? you bet, because of that sick feeling in the pit of our stomach on Tuesday night. Conservatives now are "mad as hell and are not going to take it anymore". So starts the pendalum swinging back to the right...
One final thought - Young Republicans - that organization used to be huge and aggressive, we need them back. They will teach us old farts how to market in this new age of communication - with conservative passion !!!
To Right Passion:
How do we get the Young Republicans back involved? What would be a drawing point because I have to tell you most (not all) of the college Republicans only showed up when there were parties with free food. I saw more college Republicans on election night than I had ever seen in one place. What would your suggestions be. Obama obviously paid $10.00 an hour to get people out to canvass according to articles in the Indystar. There has to be a way to cause excitement.
RR, one way we engage younger than 50 conservatives is to go, and engage, where they go. They don't go to precinct meetings at 7 p.m. They don't write letters to the editor in the Times. They don't hang out at Passtimes or Old Style and talk about the old days.
They are happy to online conference, to be involved in google groups and facebook groups, to blog comment, to be involved in events that make a difference (OE running team, Habitat, Homeless Shelter, churches, block parties, kids soccer and high school sport. That's where the voters are, and they don't have the time to attend evening meetings.
You know what? I've seen one of the D candidates at almost all of the things you mentioned. As a matter of a fact, I met her marathon training for OE a few years ago. I've seen one of our candidates at church, that's it.
Anon, that's the key isn't it?
Those who want change, don't really care for socialism or coddling terrorists, they voted for Obama because he was exciting, engaged, cared about things like vision and hope.
Key word is engaged, Obama and his team found a way to keep the voter's attention throughout the campaign. All the tech stuff was the means of making this connection work better. If Obama is smart, he'll continue to have a live webinar or some other form of internet "fireside" chat to the nation.
I completely agree with this. One of the leftist illuminati's strengths was the ability to be cutting edge and current. Everyone knows of the cool looking retro-ish Obama poster. Did you see anyone from the republican party doing the sort of guerilla marketing that the dems did? I didn't. Especially for a lot of young people who aren't politically inclined, that can totally make or break a decision.
