Lake County - making stupid decisions since 1934. Nothing is forever.

Lake County politics have been dominated by the Democrats since 1934.   Who has the power?  People like the Sheriff and the County Clerk.  Who wins the elections?  Democrats.   Even the Democrats have a lot of people who are lamenting today that the wrong people won the Democrat primaries.  Yes, there are responsible Democrats in Lake County who do not want the good-old boys club in charge and they are unhappy.

On the Republican side most of the candidates backed by the powers-that-be also won.  Naturally like a horse race where everyone has money on a ticket the pounding hooves to the finish line are drowned out by the cries of encouragement and despair in the stands.  To quote myself to a companion in arms, "We lick our wounds and join forces because the differences between conservatives are much less important that the difference between us and the liberal-becoming-socialists."

It is true.  On the Republican side there are some guys behind the scenes who may have some shaky motivations and a few people who like taking the fight outside the ropes.  Nevertheless they are simply guys who want to make a few more bucks, not fake ideologues using real ideologues to help convert the USA into a...something else.

Did I find out a lot about movers and shakers?  Yes.  Enough to expect a hit team at my door?  Hahahahaha!  Not even.  Maybe a couple of cold glances at a meet and greet down the line.  When push comes to shove I am a conservative Constitutional voter, am I going to vote for a Democrat when they have all moved left of George McGovern?  Not likely. 

So our new born candidates, and I say this to Porter and other county readers as well.  Our new-born candidates?  They need to be cared for and nurtured.  Did we want to spank them a few times in the last few months?  Okay, but now we have them and they belong to us.   If we raise them in a good home and treat them with love and give them good advice just maybe they will grow up to be good politicians.  In fact, some may be far more than the rumors and whispers have said.   History is written by the victors.  We have these candidates now and they need us to be with them and not against them.  In fact, they may turn out to be pretty good guys if we give them a chance to try to lead from the front. 

So I am going to just give on and all a get out of jail free card and see what they do and say between here and November.  We try to bring up actual issues and get actual answers without being prejudiced about what we know and/or think we know from the past.  You say what?  Me being conciliatory?  Is something in the water? 

Nope.  Ever play sports?  You run right over a guy over to make an extra yard, you give back two elbows for every one while jostling for rebounding position but after the game you go grab a beer or at least say, "good game."  Win or lose.  We win some, we lose some.   Let's get ready for the next game, now we are in the playoffs and loser go home!
