Why Mourdock and not Lugar? Because Indiana needs representation rather than abandonment!

I have had the pleasure of meeting both men running for Senate on the Republican side.  You can compare their stances on the issues here:   But I do urge you to read this post before you decide which man will get your vote.  November brings many local races to the front pages.   I do urge you to consider now what you will do in the Primary season to come as well.   The councilmen you elect today become the Senators of tomorrow.  Every election is crucial!   So with that in mind, a look at the Senate race that is coming our way.

Once decades ago I believe Dick Lugar represented the mainline Conservative Republicans and ordinary Hoosiers.   Then again, once long ago he actually resided in Indiana!   Now he still maintains an address in Indiana but is well known as a longtime Beltway Boy.   McLean, Virginia claims him as their own...excerpt:

"Two McLean neighbors attended the posh White House state dinner Thursday evening given for the visitng South Korean president and his wife.

Sen. Richard Lugar and wife Deb Lugar are long-time McLean residents. The senior senator from Indiana is also the ranking member of the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee.

Virginia Del. Mark Keam, whose 35th District includes a western sliver of McLean, and his wife  Alex Seong Keam also attended..."

Dick Lugar was in fact the Republican Barack Obama co-opted to help prepare the Democratic candidate for President for the debates against the Republican candidate, John McCain.   Lugar became known as "Obama's Favorite Republican" and it is easy to find pictures of the two smiling together as Lugar helped get the most radical socialistic Democrat (this side of FDR) to ever win election.   On this one issue alone Dick Lugar should be cast from the Republican side.  He was working against Republicans and for a man who we now can see is a radical leftist.  He no longer represents any portion of the Republican Party other than those who are aligned primarily with lobbyists and career fatcats.

Picture accompanying a story on the theft of Indiana pension funds by the Obama Administration

Richard Mourdock is a man I met just over three years ago. My first impression was that he is a man of great personal character and also a man of action.   His understanding of the US and Indiana Constitution and his dogged determination to keep Barack Obama and his cronies from stealing the retirement funds from Indiana pensioners impresses me to this day.   Subsequent personal conversations revealed that he is also a very accessible gentleman who wants to know what Hoosiers think and seeks to promote laws that help Americans in general and Hoosiers in particular while being true to his personal convictions.

Richard Mourdock

I was quite surprised to find that, after a couple of very brief conversations at previous events Richard actually recognized me and my wife at a Lake County Republican Party function where Mike Pence was the keynote speaker.  What a gracious, down-to-earth yet accomplished man Richard Mourdock is!   Yet the fire is still in his eyes when he describes how the Obama Administration stole money from Hoosiers in the illegal Chrysler Bailout that broke bankruptcy laws and was eventually overturned by the Supreme Court, but not before the Obama Administration had largely stripped Chrysler of all funds and continued to basically give a large chunk of Chrysler to the Italian automaker, FIAT...even worse, the Obama Administration gave the Italians money that they then used to purchase controlling interest in Chrysler!

As you might imagine, I cringe and get angry every time I see a Chrysler commercial now, promoting Detroit and "hard work and character."   The Obama Administration stole from every single American to accomplish the bailout and it served to benefit...Italy?!   I wonder if Solyndra and other bailouts would not be far more heinous than anything Richard Nixon did in association with Watergate and CREEP?  Where are the investigative journalists looking while bailout after bailout rewards Obama cronies and foreign entities while our National deficit climbs to the Moon?

Richard Mourdock was elected Indiana’s State Treasurer in November 2006 and was re-elected in 2010, leading the Republican ticket with over 62% of the vote. As Treasurer, Richard has been an integral part of the state’s fiscal health.  Richard’s leadership earned over $1 billion in investment income for taxpayers and successfully expanded the state’s college savings plan.  At the same time, his office has returned an average of 10% of his budget back to the Treasury each year.

Richard is known nation-wide for leading the legal fight to challenge the Obama Administration’s illegal bailout and takeover of Chrysler. Richard took this case all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court on behalf of Indiana pensioners. His courageous efforts were featured in articles by George Will, the Wall Street Journal, as well as on Fox News and other national media outlets.

A solid conservative, Richard is a popular speaker at Republican events and Tea Party rallies alike. Richard’s conservative message of constitutionally limited government was heard by over one million people during the 9-12 March on Washington in 2009.

Prior to his election as State Treasurer, Richard had a successful 30 year career in the private sector, managing businesses in the energy, environmental and construction industries. He also served two terms as County Commissioner of Vanderburgh County.

Richard is a licensed pilot, has been active in Christian Missions in Bolivia, holds a Master’s Degree in Geology from Ball State University and a Bachelor’s Degree from Defiance College in Ohio. Richard has completed six marathons in the past eight years. He and his wife, Marilyn, live in Darmstadt, Indiana.

I hope to demonstrate the following two important points:

  1.  Richard Lugar is no longer a Conservative and no longer represents the views of his Hoosier constituents.  In fact it is hard to contend that he is even an Indiana resident.  He has left us both physically and philosophically and settled in to compromising contentment in Virginia.
  2. Richard Mourdock has proven his courage and loyalty and by dint of hard work has fought to do the will of Hoosiers and represents Conservatives and mainline Hoosier Republicans.

Obama’s Favorite Republican

August 24th by the Editors

In 2012, Indiana will be asked to choose between a hard-line conservative or “Obama’s Favorite Republican,” Senator Dick Lugar. Lugar has a long history of leaning toward liberalism. Here’s the brutal list of 10 of Lugar’s worst offenses from Hoosiers for Conservative Senate.

1. Voted “YES” for the Wall Street Bailout (TARP) and putting taxpayers on the hook. Senator Dick Lugar Supported the Wall Street Bailout. (Oct. 1, 2008, HR1424)

2. Voted “YES” to confirm Elena Kagan for a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court.. Senator Dick Lugar was the second Republican to declare his support for this known liberal nominee of President Barack Obama. Lugar knew Elena Kagan was the lead defender of Bill Clinton’s shameless veto of the Partial-Birth-Abortion Ban. Aug. 5, 2010. (Roll Call 229)

3. Voted “YES” for amnesty for illegal aliens. Senator Dick Lugar not only has repeatedly voted for amnesty, but also was a prime co-sponsor of President Barack Obama’s notorious DREAM Act and voted for this bill. Fortunately, conservatives voted against it, and it failed. Dec 18, 2010 (HR5281, Roll Call 625)

4. Voted “YES” to continue taxpayer funding of abortion. Senator Dick Lugar, who claims to be pro-life, voted against Senator David Vitter’s amendment to prohibit funds from being granted to organizations that perform abortions when a woman’s life is not in danger, unless the organization is a hospital. Oct. 18, 2007. (S.Amdt 3330 Roll Call 379) Lugar also voted to support stem cell research, which destroys human life. July 18, 2006 (HR810, Roll Call 206)

5. Voted “NO” to restoring the 2nd Amendment rights to citizens of the District of Columbia. Senator Dick Lugar voted against this basic right to self-defense on February 26, 2009. (S.160, Roll Call 72)

6. Voted “YES” to confirm Sonia Sotomayor for a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court. Senator Dick Lugar gave the White House a “resounding victory” by voting for this liberal nominee of President Barack Obama. More than 70% of GOP Senators voted against her confirmation and the NRA publicly opposed her confirmation. Aug 6, 2009

7. Voted “YES” for the Auto Industry Bailout. Senator Dick Lugar gave the Big Labor Union Bosses a big gift by forcing taxpayers to take over GM and Chrysler. In the process, Indiana retirees lost tens of millions in retirement fund savings, thanks to the legally unprecedented, Obama-Orchestrated bankruptcy plan for Chrysler. Dec. 11, 2008. (HR 7005, Roll Call 215)

8. Voted “YES” to allow Social Security Benefits for illegal aliens. Senator Dick Lugar cast the deciding vote against reducing document fraud, preventing identity theft, preserving the integrity of the Social Security system, and granting Social Security benefits to illegal aliens who engaged in unlawful activity. Feb. 18, 2006. (S.2611, Roll Call 130)

9. Voted “YES” to raise his own salary. Senator Dick Lugar voted numerous times to raise his own salary during his nearly four decades in federal office

10. Voted “YES” to confirm activist Federal Judge David Hamilton to the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals. Senator Dick Lugar supported Hamilton despite his work with the ACLU and ACORN and his openly pro-abortion views. Hamilton also handed down the decision to stop Christian prayer on the floor of the legislature in the Indiana Statehouse. Nov. 19,2009

Senator Lugar is avidly anti-gun rights. Lugar voted to oppose a concealed carry bill written by Senator John Thune. Even Lugar’s fellow Senator from Indiana, Evan Bayh, a Democrat, voted for the bill. According to the Huffington Post, “Sen. Richard Lugar (R-Ind.) cast one of two no votes from the GOP. The vote was in character for Lugar, who is no enemy of gun-control advocates.” The NRA has graded Lugar a D+ for his lack of support for Second Amendment rights. Lugar told Bloomberg’s Al Hunt that he supports reinstating the Assault Weapons Ban. The exchange regarding gun control starts five minutes into the video below. Lugar’s anti-conservative credentials should preclude any conservative for voting for him in 2012.

There is a video on that site that is 21 minutes long, a Bloomberg Media product I cannot reproduce.  You will have to go to the Richard Young site to watch it.   However, I do have an appropriate and much shorter youtube to display:

There are 14 videos on this site that give a summary of the Obamanation of Dick Lugar.

I would also point out that Dick Lugar is on the National Advisory Board of Campus Network  a division of the New York City-based Roosevelt Institute, a big government think-tank and training organization that is functionally a branch of the Democratic Party.

The Roosevelt Institute’s own website proudly proclaims its liberal pedigree:

Through the Four Freedoms Center think tank, launched in 2009, the Roosevelt Institute incubates and promotes rigorous, progressive policy ideas and value narratives, and deploys the people who are their strongest proponents into the public debate.”

“This is an organization that is justifying wealth distribution through higher taxes and is glorifying the 'Occupy Wall Street' protesters. Why would a Republican US Senator be a part of promoting this agenda?  Read the entire post on this subject here.

Now let me share with you a speech given by my friend and fellow Conservative Republican, Suzy Barnhart given at the Lake County Reagan Breakfast on behalf of Richard Mourdock (who was attending a cousin's wedding on that morning.  Family first!)-

"Prior to his election as State Treasurer, Richard had a successful 30 year career in the private industry, managing businesses in the energy, environmental and construction industries. He also served 2 terms as County Commissioner of Vanderburgh County from 1995-2002, where he gained a reputation as a results-orientated leader by setting goals and measuring progress.

Richard Mourdock has been a great friend to Hoosiers and the Lake County GOP. He has helped keep the party solvent by serving as the keynote speaker at Lincoln Day Dinners, Reagan Breakfasts, precinct meetings, Rotary Meetings and will be here again in October to go door to door for Crown Point Mayoral candidate Eldon Strong.

Richard Mourdock believes GOP officials have a duty to build the party and not come out just around their elections. We have not seen his opponent here in Lake County in years with the exception of a couple of times of recently.

Richard Mourdock also believes once elected, you have a duty to visit and speak to your constituents and not ask $8,000 for a county GOP Dinner to do so-Yes, I did say $8,000!

Richard Mourdock is a consistent conservative and been a partner to Gov. Mitch Daniels in the Statehouse where as Treasurer he earned over $1 Billion in investment income since he was elected.

He returned an average of 10% of the office budget back to the state each year since elected and has help build the state college savings plan

Richard Mourdock was re-elected in 2010 with 62% of the vote. He received more votes in Joe Donnelly's district (the Democrat opponent next year) than Donnelly himself received in 2010.

Richard Mourdock respects Sen. Lugar's 35 years in office but our Founders never intended anyone to be in office for nearly 4 decades. We can't expect to change what is going wrong with our economy and what's wrong in Washington unless we change the people who we send there.

Thats why Richard Mourdock also supports term limits and laws that require Congress to live by the same laws it passes for the rest' of us.
There are difference between the candidates and we Hoosiers have a true conservative choice:

Richard Mourdock: Opposed Obama's liberal Supreme Court nominees
His opponent: Voted for each one

Richard Mourdock: Believes in balancing the Federal budget and that it should be a top priority
Opponent (Lugar): Voted numerous times for increases in the debt ceiling

Richard Mourdock: Stood up to the auto & bank bailouts
Opponent (Lugar):  Voted for them

Richard Mourdock: Believes in ending pork barrel earmark spending
Opponent (Lugar):  Condoned the practice

Richard Mourdock: Supports the 2nd amendment
Received an "A" rating from the NRA(National Rifle Association)
Understand that gun control doesn't equal crime controlOpponent (Lugar):  Has a "D" rating from the NRA & voted to gut the right to bear arms

Richard Mourdock would NEVER, ever, ever, allow himself to be used in a Barak Obama campaign ad!

Richard Mourdock has received several Endorsements but not limited to:
Commentator Mark Levin
Erick Erickson
Gun Owners of America
Hoosiers for a Conservative Senate
Citizens United Political Victory Funds
Minuteman PAC
National Association for Gun Rights
Presidential candidate Herman Cain
Fox News Dick Morris
National Republican Trust PAC
Tea Party Express
Steve Forbes
and many others...

Various stories & statements about Richard Mourdock have gone recently that are NOT accurate or simply not true.

Remember: Lies have speed but the truth has endurance.

I have known Richard Mourdock for 4 + years and have had the opportunity to consciously observe him in many different situations to see if he was the person of integrity & character I believed him to be. I watched him at events, meetings, social occasions to see if he was honorable. I watched how he treated people and handle difficult situations. What I learned is he honest & of the highest integrity in his personal & political life. He is one of the finest person I have ever met. I am proud to work for him.

Richard Mourdock is ready to take on the Democrats and be a part of the coming conservative majority in the US Senate.

Richard Mourdock has been a role model of integrity and competence to our state & this country. He has been a symbol of conservatism & courage to the nation. He stood alone in the Chrysler Bankruptcy case against Obama's attempt to put unsecured claims ahead of Indiana's secured creditors and he won!

It is with great Hoosier pride I stand before you today and ask for your support & vote next May for Richard Mourdock, the next US Senator from our great state of Indiana!

Thank-you!

To summarize, the Dick Lugar who is now voting largely along party lines is the one that shows up when his job is in jeopardy.  The normal Dick Lugar is the McLean, Virginia resident whose viewpoint is much closer to Barack Obama's than to the average Hoosier's mindset.   Lugar votes in opposition to the Republican majority and the normal Hoosier whenever he is safely voted back in to his comfy position in Washington.  The real Dick Lugar voted without hesitation to put the radical Sonia Sotomayor and the completely unqualifed Elena Kagan on the Supreme Court and also voted to approve Ruth Bader Ginsberg, a far left liberal judicial activist who believes the laws of other nations should be applied to Supreme Court cases, which are supposed to be nothing more than a review for adherence to the American Constitution!

Richard Mourdock is a great American success story, a businessman who was successful, a missionary who gave of himself for the good of others,  a Tea Party supported, well-educated Indiana Renaissance Man who runs marathons and has many areas of expertise.   As Treasurer of the State of Indiana he has fought against Federal theft and wisely invested and received strong return of those investments for the sake of Hoosiers.   He'll not become a tick embedded in the haunches of the American taxpayers, he'll work to balance budgets, change Congress into a body more in line with the vision of our Founding Fathers and put an end to the concept of the "elected royalty" who are not subject to the laws of the land.  He believes we need a Statesman and not a Politician.  I agree.

My skin is in the game.   I have collected signatures for Richard Mourdock, worn Mourdock shirts to various events and places, collected a few handouts and bumper stickers to give to others, contributed to his campaign and will be working to see a genuine Hoosier Conservative Republican put into office and allow Dick Lugar to spend more time on that lawn in McLean, Virginia.

Let me ask you this, when you vote for a Republican Senator from Indiana, don't you expect him to 1) act as if he was a Republican and 2) actually be a resident of Indiana?  If that is your expectation, then Richard Mourdock is the only choice you have.

Time to retire Dick Lugar!!!
