What if your mother decided that you were just an inconvenience? What if there were no men and women willing to give their time and money and energy to help others and defend truth in the face of evil? Did you know abortions not only kill babies, they are dangerous for the physical and mental health of the mothers and could prevent them from being able to have a baby later? Did you know women who have abortions are more likely to develop breast cancer? Did you know that other family members can be hurt by abortion?
We receive all sorts of political mailers, shiny, bright, claiming all sorts of things. When we get one from Richard Mourdock, it emphasizes what he has accomplished for Indiana, his conservative values and the endorsements he has received from various organizations. When we get one from Dick Lugar, it is filled with charges against Richard Mourdock, claiming that Mourdock was not showing up for work, making bad investments and was backed by special interests. Since Dick Lugar doesn't even live in Indiana and has been barred from even voting for himself and since he worked so hard to get Barack Obama elected to the office of President, I have a hard time believing anything he or his political operatives say.
Let's talk about Richard Mourdock and his "special interests" that Dick Lugar claims are supporting him. It just sounds bad, doesn't it? Mourdock is the choice of special interests? What kind of man could he be?
At the end of this post I will list more of them, but for now let me tell you about one Richard Mourdock special interest - the Right To Life, the cause of the unborn citizens of our nation! Yes, Indiana Right To Life has endorsed Richard Mourdock and not Dick Lugar.
My wife Debbie and I attended the Lake County Right To Life Banquet this Friday the 27th of April. We sat with a few people at the far end of the room, away from the big dogs of local politics. A businessman and his wife, who happen to be black (more on why that matters later) and had been married for 35 years, a younger couple married five years who had met on an online dating site (like my wife and I did ten years ago), another nice lady who came alone and a mother and daughter who I remember from a few years back when we both attended the same church. Debbie and I discovered that everyone else at the table was either working with A Positive Approach to Teen Health or was the spouse of a Pathblazer.org worker. Since Debbie worked for Project Reality before I married her and we were all supporting the Lake County Right To Life organization it became dinner with friends.
We admire Len Reynolds, who set aside holding a political office to become the President of the Lake County RTL and, man, he and his organization host a great banquet! The big room at the Avalon Manor was packed with people. The food was delicious, the conversation flowed. Then Abby Johnson stepped up to the podium and captured our attention just as we were biting into the heavenly cherry cheesecake offered up for dessert. Oh, man!

Abby Johnson was a Planned Parenthood worker who was moving up the corporate ladder. She'd had two abortions before getting married and becoming pregnant and giving birth to her first child. The ultrasound of her unborn child and the wonder of holding that first baby had no effect on her at all. She was pursuing a lucrative career. She had been 2008 Planned Parenthood Worker of the Year! She'd sat next to Hilary Clinton! Soon she was given more responsibilities, including POC duty. I will quote a bit from her blog about those days:
A few weeks later I was introduced to our freezer in the POC (products of conception) lab. This was the freezer that held the fetal tissue until the biohazard truck came for disposal. I found out the name for that freezer…the nursery. Again, that was a joke. How had that become a joke?
A few days later I learned the password to our phone system…2229…BABY.
A couple years later I remember walking in on my supervisor making jokes with the abortionist and another employee in that same POC lab. They were joking about how the fetal tissue floating in this dish looked like bar-b-que. Did I hear that right? Did they really just say that? Then one of them said, “I actually think this part looks like strawberry jam.” I turned around and walked out without saying a word. I felt sick to my stomach. How did that conversation begin? How could they say that? Was it enough to make me leave? No. I was one of them now. I am drenched in the evil of this place.
Several years later I found out that my affiliate was going to build the largest abortion clinic in the Western Hemisphere. I remember my boss making the announcement. “We are building the largest abortuary in the country!” We all busted out laughing as we applauded. We loved hearing all of the words pro-lifers called our clinics. We were all so proud. We were doing something that would go down in the history books. Good for us, we thought.
About a year before I left, the Coalition for Life group had moved in next door to our clinic. We joked about sending them a “welcome to the neighborhood” gift. Maybe we should send them cookies in the shape of babies with red icing on them that resembles blood. We laughed. We thought we were so witty. It was not wit."
One day Abby was given a quick two-hour course on using the ultrasound equipment, not nearly enough to be safe, but enough so she could reveal the fetus inside the womb to the doctor who wanted to use the device. Unlike most abortion doctors, this one wanted to see the fetus as he murdered him or her and sucked the pieces of the broken life out from the mother who was throwing that life away. Abby had been taught, and all the Planned Parenthood personnel had been told to tell mothers that a fetus could not feel any pain until after week 28. Here was a 13-week-old fetus and Abby could see every finger and toe and she was watching a very tiny baby with that ultrasound. All the times Abby had pieced together hacked-up babies to make sure everything was out of the mother, all the tubs of fetal material stored and shipped out, all the jokes made about the pro-lifers outside the clinic? Here came the device that would kill and remove the baby and the baby began to move...away! As it came towards him, he retreated up to the top of the tiny living space we call a womb, recoiling as the tip of the killing machine followed him to take his life...and of course eventually here came more "strawberry jam" from the outlet tube. It happens every 24 seconds in the United States, a baby is brutally murdered and the mother's life endangered for the sake of...convenience?
A fetus fighting to live and suffering a cruel, painful, heartless death? Abby Johson, wife and mother, was working in a 78,000 square foot murder factory and she knew it. She was getting paid big money to look the other way and not really think about fetuses as being ALIVE. Not think about them suffering PAIN. In the end, Abby had to walk out of that office, get in her car, drive to the next door down where that Pro-Life group, The Brazos Valley Coalition for Life was located. She needed to say that she was sorry. They were shocked to see her. Abby kept saying to them "I'm sorry". They embraced her and said, " You are a new creature, old things are passed away." Abby Johnson found that having peace with God and personal integrity trumped a big PP paycheck.

So, having been given national exposure, she works with 40 Days For Life as a speaker and living testimony to the Truth, that life begins at conception.
Abby Johnson reminded the audience that Planned Parenthood was founded by Margaret Sanger, a dedicated Eugenicist who wanted abortion legalized in order to kill off black babies. I didn't look to my right at the black couple next to me, but I thought about that. He is a business professional, she is a worker for the cause of young people's health and education. They've been married for 35 years. They are the epitome of what America is supposed to be...and Planned Parenthood is especially interested in killing black babies before they grow up to be like our dinner companions?
So why does a "special interest group" like Right To Life endorse and support Richard Mourdock? Unlike Dick Lugar, Mourdock does not vote to spend tax dollars on abortions. Unlike Dick Lugar, Richard Mourdock actually goes to Right To Life events right here in Indiana where he lives. If he cannot attend, one of his top staff members will attend. As I go to Tea Party and RTL and other local events, I have seen Richard Mourdock several times and spoken with him two or three of those times. Mourdock is a man well-versed on the Constitution. He is personable. He runs marathons. He may have a public office, but when you shake his hand you feel the power of someone unafraid of hard work and, when you look him in the eye you see a man who BELIEVES and acts upon those beliefs. Richard Mourdock is a Hoosier!
I imagined Lugar sitting in his Virginian mansion, where he has lived since selling his Indiana home in 1977 (and had the gall to compare his living there to the troops facing death in Afghanistan for their country) laughing with his society friends and beltway boys about how he once had to live in one of those "fly over states" and figuring that a few million bucks spent on attack ads would keep him attending fancy dinners in Virginia while only having to stay at a Marriott back in Indiana now and then to keep living like a king on taxpayer money. He figures he can accuse Richard Mourdock of being in the pocket of "special interest groups" and keep his fancy house and big salary? He thinks he can give lip service to Pro-life and Conservative causes every six years and then go back to being a Beltway Boy?
While Dick Lugar was backing Barack Obama and his political agenda, Richard Mourdock was fighting in the courts to keep the Federal Government from stealing Indiana Pension funds by bailing out Chrysler via bankruptcy, the illegal actions to take the remaining money and give it to others while Indiana's money was stolen. Mourdock knew that Indiana's pension funds were secured and therefore first in line to receive money that was funneled to others. He took the fight to the Supreme Court, won in the end but by that time the money was already gone. Even newspapers not particularly friendly to Republicans represent Richard Mourdock as a man running on principles.

Debbie has walked all over the precinct passing out sample ballots and offering signs and information about Richard Mourdock. She walked several miles, passed out over 100 handouts with voting information and a couple of Mourdock signs. A Border Collie who did not want her to leave his home bit her on the butt! She's been munched on by gnats and mosquitoes and come home sore and worn out from her walks. With my bum knee I cannot walk, but I've posted the ballot online and you can see your Indiana Primary Ballot by going right here. Now I am asking you to consider what you will do when May 8th gets here? Can you think of any other Republican candidates from the Midwest who lost a few elections early on but kept on trying, kept acting on principle and eventually won a big election? They say Abe Lincoln could swing an axe pretty well.

Unlike Dick Lugar, he understands making a balanced budget, investing wisely, doing things the right way, adhering to the foundational principles upon which our nation was built. He is not afraid to be called a Christian, a Conservative, a Tea Party guy or a Republican. Here are some "special interests"
