My name is Eric Krieg and I am running for Lake County Surveyor. I believe that a professional should head a technical organization like the Surveyor’s office, and I bring a wealth of professional experience to the race. The Surveyor should be filled with a professional in the field, either a licensed professional engineer or a licensed Surveyor. This is not a political office in the traditional sense. As the only licensed, professional engineer in the race, Lake County voters have the opportunity to hire a professional in the Surveyor’s office, just as they would choose a professional to design their new home or solve a drainage problem on their property.
Not only that, but there seems to be a push for “ethics” at the county level, with ethics training being pushed by the “Good Government” types. But ethics really starts with the voters holding their elected officials accountable. Sadly, voters in the past have not held the current Surveyor accountable for unethical behavior. The time to do so is now.
My focus is on getting politics out of the Surveyor’s office. The current Surveyor has put his own political agenda with regards to the Little Calumet River ahead of people’s lives and property. The politics needs to stop.
I am a licensed, professional engineer in the State of Indiana as well as Illinois. I have 17 years of industry experience, am working towards certifications in engineering management and project management, and should achieve those certifications within the next year. With these certifications, I will be one of the most qualified Surveyors in the entire state of Indiana.
I have a masters degree in engineering from the Armour School of Engineering at the Illinois Institute of Technology.
I live with my wife, Jill, and our four young children in Munster.
I hope that you agree with me that we need to bring professionalism and ethics to the office of Surveyor and get politics out of it. I ask for your support for Lake County Surveyor.
